Tunnel

A corridor and bicycle tunnel have been designed by a painting where undulating fields in different sizes and varying shapes cover the walls. On top of the abstract shapes, here and there are more concretely drawn motifs such as an ice cream, a tree or a number of glaze donuts. The colors are clear and soft pastels with hints of blue, green, orange and pink, among other things.

Flowers and doughnuts with sprinkles and glaze fly freely about in a moving landscape of abstract and less-abstract shapes along the walls of the tunnel under Östra Bangatan. The shapes are clear and the colours bright when Emil Öhlund opens a wormhole in our everyday lives into an anime or video game-like space.

The motif in the tunnel was developed together with youngsters at the Olaus Petri School, where artist Emil Öhlund, in workshops and discussions with Year 5 and 6 pupils, reflected on what is important. Subjects such as happiness and security were high on the list, as were doughnuts, ice cream and rainbow colours.

Emil Öhlund was born in 1985. He lives and works in Örebro and studied at Örebro Art College. He used spray paints for this large mural, but in usual cases, Öhlund works mostly in brush. His art takes its starting point in childhood escapes into the worlds of comics, toys and drawing in an effort to bring to life the simultaneously safe and exciting worlds of the imagination.
