Samspel (Interplay)

On the facade above the entrance to the ice rink Trängen, we see silhouettes of a number of athletes in motion. The figures are exposed. They practice just such sports that may be relevant inside the hall. Figure skaters who do pirouettes and an ice hockey player with the club ready for tech, are among the situations that are reproduced. The figures are illuminated so that each dark silhouette is surrounded by an aura of light in some sharp color.

LED lamps shaped like silhouettes of sports people - the lamps shine in different colors.

Extreme exertion and focus are required for a figure skater to glide across the ice in pirouettes and graceful arches. Making advanced jumps and movements look beautiful and nimble takes a lot of practice. Pair skating places even higher demands on the skaters.

In hockey as well, both sharpness in the moment and practice and more practice are required to achieve goosebumps-inducing dribbles, passes, goals and saves.
Demanding, in other words, but the very effort of learning a sport can also be quite fun in itself. When the interplay with others on the ice is really syncing, that’s when sports are at their best.

Through a group of figures on the façade of the ice rink, artist Kent Karlsson translates the interplay in sports to an interplay between shapes in cut aluminium. In the daytime, the façade functions as a bright contrast to the dark silhouettes of the hockey players and figure skaters. But in the evening, the work takes on a new look, as LED lights in blue, red, yellow, violet and green light up the contours of the aluminium sheet.
