Piece of mind

When evening darkness falls, a lighting on a triangular white shape appears in Änglandaskolan's schoolyard. Inside the triangle, several different fields can be seen in sharp neon-like shades of red, green, yellow, blue, purple and pink. Black rounds are marked on top of some of the color fields. Approximately in the middle of the triangle are four benches placed in a circular shape. A red roundel can be seen between these. The color fields come from lampposts, each of which has been fitted with luminaires that support a number of LED lamps in different colors.

Round black circles and lights in red, blue and yellow are reflected against the stone-clad surface.

A white wedge in the grey tiling points away from Änglandaskolan’s cafeteria window. One red and several black circles form an irregular pattern in the wedge shape. You can sit around the red circle and when it is dark outside, the site is illuminated by a specially composed light.

‘Peace of mind’ describes a state of tranquillity, and with their work, artists Kristina Matousch and Anders Soidre wanted to create a calm place for people to take a break and find some peace. By using the word ‘piece’ instead of ‘peace’ in the title of the work, the meaning instead becomes skewed – a fragment of a mind, a thought, an idea, an intellect or a mentality.

Piece of Mind is intended to be a piece, a section, from an abstract mindset in which many different motifs can be seen. The surface of the moon, craters, planets, a slice of Swiss cheese, and a circle stencil are just some examples.
