Huset drömmer (Building Dreams)

A light animation work covers a giant rectangular dark wall where hundreds of LED lights are attached along vertical tight-fitting bars. An abstract light formation with illuminated and extinguished fields flows in constantly new forms based on the positions of different LED lights. The shifts take place in a continuous flow and at a slow pace. In this way, the motive is constantly changing.

Building Dreams is a light animation work on the façade of the Tegelbruket building along Ekersvägen. The work was installed in 2017 and consists of hundreds of LED lights that slowly turn on and off, giving life to the large building wall.

The work, which is in a constant state of change, shows abstract images and animations, giving the feeling that the giant wall of lights is reflecting everything that is going on inside the building. Tegelbruket is a community youth recreation centre, and the idea is that anyone passing or coming in for a visit will be met by a building that signals positive energy.

In the artists’ own words: ‘It can be seen as a short and unannounced performance – like a sports match, a trick, or as if the building is dreaming.’

Thomas Elovsson and Peter Geschwind are the artists behind the work. They were both born in the 1960s and have been involved in many exhibitions and art projects, some together as a duo, but also with other artists or individually. They have also both worked as professors at art colleges and are transboundary in their choice of material and expression.

Take the opportunity to experience the light artwork in the darker months of the year!
