Bro som rimmar på tro (Bridge That Rhymes with Faith)
A pair of basically classic bridge railings with steel grilles in panels are supported by a steel pipe structure on either side of a concrete bridge over a small river. The color is sharp turquoise blue. The central panel in the middle of the bridge has been replaced by a section where widely separated objects in different cast techniques have been joined together into a kind of collage.
Some of the items are a glove, an old cassette tape, several different kinds of bottles and a broken shovel. We also see something resembling a naked Barbie doll without hair.
Ann Sidén studied as an artist at Kuben and at Örebro Art College. Her art took various forms and expressions in sculpture, spatial installations, and performance.
Bridge That Rhymes with Faith is a sculptural work along the Lilla-å sculpture riverwalk of a bridge railing with two sides. It is a relief of copies from forgotten, discarded or lost things found in the river. The objects are moulded and cast in bronze, using four different techniques depending on whether the material was soft or hard.
Ann Sidén about the work:
‘Below Olaus Petri Church is Bro som rimmar på tro, a bronze railing filled with forgotten, discarded or lost objects. The work is about waste and was made before household recycling began. Six-year-olds at Lillåstrand School were the explorers who looked for the objects along the riverbank, and the Grodorna diving club pulled trash from the river bottom. Snuff boxes and bicycles were dragged up, the children organized trade and did everything the top execs in business do. A walking crutch was suboptimized and the value rose with each new sale.
The objects are moulded and cast in bronze using four different techniques depending on whether the material was soft or hard. The branches between the objects are from elderberry bushes, which are still used as air ducts for sand moulding in foundries. There are also three art historical references to find!’
