Riksgymnasiet för hörselskadade — Swedish National Upper Secondary School for the Hard of Hearing

Örebro is home to Riksgymnasiet för döva och hörselskadade, Sweden’s National Upper Secondary Schools for the Deaf and for the Hard of Hearing. Students at Riksgymnasiet för döva are taught in sign language and those at Riksgymnasiet för hörselskadade in spoken Swedish amplified by audiological aids. Most students are deaf or hard of hearing. Some students are deafblind or language-impaired

Riksgymnasierna för döva was established as a school for the deaf in 1967 and was followed in 1984 by RGH, the school for the hard of hearing. The total number of pupils at Riksgymnasierna is around 450, and the students attend tuition at four of Örebro’s six municipal upper secondary schools. About ten percent of all the students at these schools are enrolled at Riksgymnasierna för döva och hörselskadade.
